Private TrainingThe test is noncompetitive and welcomes ALL dogs (purebreds and mixed breeds). All dogs who pass the CGC test can send in and receive a certificate from the American Kennel Club.
There is no age limit for dogs, however, all dogs should be old enough to have completed all vaccinations. If a dog passes as a puppy, they should be re-tested as an adult, which demonstrates training and good manners are maintained, as temperament and behavior can change over time.

The CGC test consists of 10 skills needed by all well-mannered dogs. All of the exercises are done on a leash. Some therapy dog groups require the CGC as a prerequisite for therapy work and a number of state legislatures have endorsed the CGC concept.
In a little over one decade, the Canine Good Citizen Program has begun to have an extremely positive impact in many of our communities. This is a program that can help us assure that the dogs we love will always be welcomes and well-respected members of our communities.
Requirements
For dogs of any age, providing your dog is up to date on shots (rabies, distemper and parvo).
Bring your dog, a 4' to 6' flat leash (not retractable), and your dog's brush.
