1. Bring a hungry dog. In most cases, a hungry dog is a MOTIVATED dog.

2. Bring soft treats of different varieties - already cut up to pea-size. Some of my favorites include Liver Biscotti, Lickety Stick, chopped up chicken breast, hot dog, freeze-dried liver, freeze-dried lamb lung. Start with yummy treats, and bring a lot of them, since you will want to hold his attention amidst the distracting, exciting training environment.

3. If your dog isn't super-foodie, bring something that does motivate him, such as a tennis ball or rope toy.

4. Bring a frozen, stuffed Kong, bullystick or other type of long-term consumable to keep your dog occupied during down time and demonstrations.

5. No flexi-leads. They are dangerous. Dogs can get tangled around each other quickly and easily, leading to leash-burn. The stop feature on flexi-leads can break - you never know when, hopefully it won't be in class. Instead, bring a 4-6' standard leash - leather or fabric.
* The only exception to this is Freedom, where a flexi-lead is highly recommended.

6. Bring any collars or harnesses your dog has. We'll see what works best for your dog. Martingale collars are our favorite "everyday" collar.

7. Plan to come 10 minutes early, and practice with your dog outside. You can work on anything you have learned so far.

8. Don't greet other dogs in the class prior to or during it (without permission from the instructor)! Not all dogs are dog-friendly.

9. Any member of your family is welcome to come to the training classes, after all, your dog is an important part of your family. However, during class your dog needs your attention to train him properly. If you are going to bring your children, please bring something to keep them entertained so your main focus is your dog. If your children are unruly, you may be asked to leave.

10. For homework, aim for 5-10 minutes, 3-5 times per day. When you do at least four days of homework during the week, you will earn a training ribbon for your leash, and your dog will earn a dog biscuit! The more homework you do, the faster your dog will progress.
